What is the tutor’s role?

Our school tutors are true superheroes! To prove it, we’ve described the tutor’s role with the help of two beloved and well-known superheroes.

 

The tutor’s role VS Spiderman

Like Spiderman, a super tutor needs to have a good academic background, with expertise in one or more academic areas (French, mathematics, history, geography, science, biology).

Known for observing and analyzing his or her surroundings to prepare for all eventualities, it is therefore important for a super tutor to get to know his or her pupil, take an interest in him or her and develop a bond of trust. To do this, it’s essential to have a keen sense of observation to identify the student’s strengths, challenges and interests. This will facilitate the establishment of an action plan with achievable goals and concrete means to reach them.

Like Spiderman, the super tutor has a “spider’s sense” – a sixth sense that enables him or her to forge links, be creative and proactive, with a view to the student’s academic success. He can determine what types of exercises will help his student experience success.

While many other heroes may not be convinced of Spiderman’s sense of humor, we believe that a self-deprecating, light-hearted supertutor will be able to defuse situations that can sometimes be stressful. It can also be a winning strategy for fostering learning and creating a special bond with your student.

 

The role of the tutor VS Superman

Superman is a superhero with five highly developed senses. Equipped with super-strength, super-vision and super-smell, he also benefits from super-hearing, which enables him to listen and detect all the important details. Like this superhero, the super tutor understands that every child is unique and has his or her own way of learning. So what works for some students won’t work for others. The Super Tutor must therefore know how to adjust to the needs and learning style of each student.

Superman also has a super-memory that enables him to remember details. It’s important for super tutors to keep track of their meetings and leave a record of what they’ve worked on. Several tools are at their disposal to ensure good record-keeping.

Superman is also renowned for his super-intelligence, which enables him to perform complex operations and multitask. Likewise, super tutors need to be well organized and prepared for each session. To do this, they need to be adaptable and able to adjust quickly. A good strategy is to always have a bank of activities on hand.

Finally, like Superman, a tutor is someone who is recognized for his or her commitment, benevolence and altruism.

In short, a super tutor must have the following superpowers:

• Get to know your student and maintain a personalized relationship;
• Gather information and identify your student’s strengths, challenges and interests;
• Establish an action plan based on the student’s needs, with objectives and means;
• Accompany student with homework and lessons;
• Plan meetings and prepare materials;
• Communicate and popularize the material;
• Follow up on sessions.
