A neuropsychological disorder is a deficit in one or more higher mental functions in the brain, such as attention, short- and long-term memory, concentration, spatial and temporal orientation, motor skills, language, reasoning, thought organization or perception (e.g. visual, auditory). This deficit leads to problems in the functioning of the child or adult who suffers from it (learning difficulties, behavioral difficulties, academic or professional failures, relational, social and emotional difficulties, etc.). Neuropsychological disorders can be developmental (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD), acquired (e.g. head trauma, stroke) or degenerative (e.g. Alzheimer’s).

Learning disabilities are permanent disorders of neurological origin, affecting between 10 and 15% of the population. Learning disabilities can be present from birth or appear later in development (e.g., after an accident or stroke). They are caused by a dysfunction of certain brain functions. They are not caused by an intellectual disability, a visual or hearing impairment, demotivation, inadequate school supervision or a disadvantaged living environment. The result is significant and persistent difficulty in processing verbal and non-verbal information, and in learning to read, write, reason or calculate. They affect children and adults throughout their lives, and in many areas of their lives (e.g., lower levels of schooling, lower incomes, lower self-esteem, anxiety, etc.).

We also offer the services of an ADHD expert physician with expertise in the medical examination and treatment of ADHD with or without associated disorders (e.g. anxiety, depression) in children and adults.
